What is PCOD?
Polycystic ovarian disease commonly known as PCOD is an endocrine disorder of women.
It is not a single disease but a set of disorders so also known as PCOS- Polycystic ovarian syndrome.
Due to the abnormal function of an endocrine gland, there is an excessive production of androgen and estrogenic hormones and an imbalance of female sex hormone. In PCOD, there are multiple cysts in the ovary.

Causes of PCOD
It is mainly a genetic disorder.
Other causes include:
Obesity, mental stress, hyperinsulinism, and hyperandrogenism.
Pathogenesis
There is an abnormal increased secretion of Luteinizing hormone in PCOS.
Insulin-resistance is associated with obesity. Thus together increased LH secretion and insulin-resistance leads to increase in the production of androgen hormone by the ovaries. All these consequences are the main factors of PCOS development.
Symptoms of PCOD
Irregular menstruation- There can be heavy bleeding or amenorrhea (no menstruation)
Anovulation and infertility.
Pimples/acne, dandruff, oily skin.
Excessive facial hair- because of the elevated level of androgen hormone.
Obesity and High blood pressure.
High cholesterol level.
Diabetes mellitus
Conventional treatment for PCOD
Diagnosis is done by pelvic USG. After diagnosis, focus of the treatment is on:
Managing the obesity by diet and exercise.
Regulating the hormonal imbalance.
Lowering the insulin-resistance level.
Restoration of fertility.
Surgical treatment is Laparoscopic procedure- ovarian cauterisation, ovarian drilling, and Electrocauterisation of ovarian stroma.
But conventional treatment doesn’t stop the relapse of PCOD.
Homeopathic treatment for PCOD
Homeopathic treatment helps in resolving the ovarian cysts which in terms helps in resolving symptoms at the physical level. It helps in losing the weight by improving the digestive and metabolic mechanism. Certain medicines are really effective in losing weight with proper diet and regular exercise.
